Giuseppe Verdi — Don Carlo — Act II Duet
A pivotal duet from Act II (often labeled Act I, Scene 2) of Verdi's Don Carlo. It marks the joyful reunion of Don Carlo, the Infante of Spain, and his dear friend Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa, who has returned from Flanders. Rodrigo finds Carlos despairing over his love for Elisabeth of Valois, who was forced to marry Carlos's father, the King. Rodrigo urges him to move past his forbidden love and take up the cause of freedom in Flanders.
